    About the Historic Fargo Theatre

    History (1920, 1930, 1940, 1950-60, 1970, 1980, 1990)

    1990's - Present

Today, history is repeating itself at the Fargo Theatre. Its screen and stage are being used to their fullest potential - just as the Theatre's owners had intended when they built it in 1926 as a film and vaudeville palace. On Monday, May 11, 1998 the Fargo Theatre closed its doors, removed all 870 seats and the Mighty WurliTzer, and began a long awaited and laboriously orchestrated 2.6 million dollar restoration project. From Saturday March 20 to Saturday, March 27, 1999 the Theatre celebrated the completion of this ambitious project. It has successfully completed one full year of operation following the restoration.

The Fargo Theatre has developed into the region's only "art house" cinema, presenting first-run independent and foreign films on a regular basis. Its screen still blends gems from the past - from the silents to contemporary classics. The Fargo Theatre remains the only theatre in the area with capabilities for 16-mm, 35-mm, and 70-mm film presentations. The Mighty WurliTzer rises from the pit each weekend for live intermission music, provided by the American Theatre Organ Society.

2006 promises outstanding live theatre, great movies, and our sixth film festival. See you at the Fargo Theatre!
